REHEARSALS
Our educators are highly experienced and successful in training youth choirs. Using age appropriate methods and materials, all students are met at their own level and are challenged every rehearsal to improve their own musical abilities. The SSYC requires ALL students to attend ALL rehearsals in order to ensure their musical growth.
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW:
Students are first introduced to unison choral music and beginning vocal technique. Through a variety of musical genres including classical, folk, sacred, secular, and multicultural, singers will take their first steps in reading from a choral octavo and increasing their ability to read music. Students build listening and memory skills through weekly practice, and develop confidence and stage presence in preparation for their final performance.
Following the Zoltan Kodály Training Methods, folk music, games, and dances foster the enjoyment of developing musical skills, including reading, writing, improvising, interpreting, and describing music. Students will use their voices, bodies, and rhythm instruments to make music, experience music, and internalize music.
The older students will also focus heavily on music reading along with singing in 3 to 4 parts and in many different languages. They will also be given many opportunities to improve their solo voice by performing for their choir during rehearsals. Our rehearsal environment is welcoming and all students are encouraged to take risks to overcome any personal fear of performing.
Parents are welcome to sit in to any SSYC rehearsal!
