OUR CHOIRS

 

SSYC CHOIR LEVELS

Chorus (Grade 3 to 5) Level 1

Our training choir provides a fun and rewarding first experience of being in a choir. Through singing games and musical activities, singers begin reading rhythms and melodic patterns based on the Kodaly’s system and prepare for a strong musical foundation. This choir performs twice a year.

Honor Choir (Grade 5 to 7) Level 2

The next level choir begins more difficult repertoire and student sing in two or more parts. Honor Choir students learn basic sight-reading skills as well as strengthen their vocal abilities. This choir performs twice a year.

Concert Choir (Grade 6 to 8) Level 3

In this auditioned choir, students begin to
prepare themselves for entering the Academy Choir. Student fine tune their musicianship by working on advance music theory, and improving their sight-singing abilities. Most songs are in 3 parts and are in many foreign languages. The individual voice is strengthen through group vocal training and solo singing opportunities.

Academy Choir (Grade 8 to 12) Level 4

Students in this choir consist of our most musically accomplished students. They perform throughout the year and at many different venues. Nearly all students are proficient music readers and self-sufficient musicians. Academy students will also participate in national and international concert tours.
